Fixed cushions vs. loose cushions
Buying a new sofa involves a lot of things, which should come as no surprise to you. It’s simply a significant investment and that’s why you want to be 100% sure you’re making the right choice.
One of the choices that must be made is between fixed and loose cushions. In this blog, we’ll show you what to look for when you’re about to pick a sofa.
What are fixed and loose cushions?
When you think of sofas in combination with cushions, you may immediately think of the separate cushions you put on your sofa to complete the picture. Also very important, but that's not what we mean here.
With fixed and loose cushions, we literally mean the cushions you sit on when you take a seat on the sofa. With some sofas, these cushions consist of one fixed whole, while there are also sofas where you can literally (re)move the different seating areas. Both of these options bring different advantages and disadvantages, which we’d like to talk about in this blog.
Advantages of fixed cushions
The first advantage of fixed cushions is their firmness. This may sound a bit strange, but we basically mean that the sofa feels a bit more massive and therefore more solid. In other words: you easily sink deeper into a sofa outfitted with loose cushions compared to one with fixed cushions.
Fixed cushions are therefore generally firmer. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have less seating comfort with fixed cushions. Another advantage of fixed cushions is that the sofa is stable in appearance and that you don’t have to reinvigorate your cushions by whipping and rearranging them. In terms of living style, a sofa with fixed cushions often fits modern interiors.
Advantages of loose cushions
A big advantage of loose cushions is that they are often reversible. This means that in theory, your sofa lasts a lot longer as you can flip the cushions from time to time.
Loose cushions are also easy to clean, so you can easily keep your sofa in top condition. A sofa with loose cushions often really invites you to relax because of its somewhat cosier appearance.
