Dining with children: suitable materials
Children + dining tables will always be a tricky one. On the one hand you want your home to have that beautiful piece of furniture, on the other you want to enjoy your new acquisition for years to come.
The question is: what should you go for when buying a new dining table with kids? Good news: we have suitable materials for you. In this blog we’ll tell you more!
Oak child-friendly tables
As you may know, we work with high-quality oak wood in our Table du Sud workshop. When composing your table, you get to choose between three different types of oak: new oak, lived oak, and refined oak. A tabletop made of refined oak consists of specially selected planks that contain virtually no knots and cracks. In the case of children, lived oak may be the right option. Here, we leave the knots and cracks for a rural look.
When assembling your table, don't forget to choose the right colour. In the case of children, it’s generally smart to choose a lighter colour. User scratches are less visible here. We also recommend opting for a brushed tabletop. Tip: with our 3D configurator you compose your table all by yourself, and you immediately see the result of your wishes.
Fenix, a wonderful alternative
Fenix is a thin sheet material with a nano-tech coating. This sheet material is made of paper (more than 60%) and thermosetting resin. The outer surface is treated with a new generation acrylic resin, which is hardened and fixed through an electron beam curing process.
This sounds quite technical, but the conclusion is that Fenix is scratch resistant and can take a beating. That makes this versatile material suitable for families. It’s also good to know that we have three different types of Fenix, and that Fenix is available in many different colours. This means there’s always a combination that perfectly matches your wishes! Ceramic tables for families with children
Did you know that ceramics is perfect if you’re looking for a table that can both take a beating and light up your room? Ceramics is a very strong material that scores extremely high in terms of user-friendliness. It’s scratch resistant and can handle 'threats' such as a hot pan or glasses with hot tea. In short, your children won't even get the chance to damage this tabletop! In addition, it’s good to know that you can compose a ceramic table all by yourself. We have different colours in store for you. This, in combination with our different frames, means there’s always a mix that perfectly matches your taste and the rest of your interior!
