A velvet sofa is one of the available options when you’re looking for a new sofa. But what exactly is velvet and what should you pay attention to if you’re going to buy a new velvet corner sofa, for example? On this page, we have collected all relevant information so you can exactly see what’s possible at Table du Sud. Spoiler: a lot!
What is velvet?
When you start looking for a new sofa, you’ll find velvet among the many fabric options. But what exactly is velvet? First, it’s good to know that the French term for velvet, velour, is used often as well. No worries, they both mean the exact same thing!
Velvet is a soft, shiny fabric that you have probably seen in luxurious looking interiors before. When you stroke velvet you feel all kinds of mini threads sticking up, one of its most famous characteristics. Velvet is made of silk or cotton and woven with raised loops.
Types of velvet sofas
You’ll find images of many different sofas on our website. It’s smart to keep in mind that these pictures merely indicate what’s possible. It only shows the tip of the iceberg, as it were. For example, you might see a beautiful 2-seater sofa and think: if only I could get that sofa in a corner version with velvet upholstery! Well, you can! At Table du Sud you’re the director of your own new sofa. This means you get to indicate your wishes in terms of size, material and colour.
Choose the right colour
Choosing a sofa is not something you do overnight and that certainly also applies to the colour of your new purchase. The colour is simply a very important attribute. It’s especially nice if you get the colour of your velvet sofa to match well with the rest of the interior. And with your taste, of course!
To ensure you aren’t faced with any surprises after your sofa has been delivered, we advise you to carefully think about the colour. For example, does your favourite colour go well with the rest of the furniture? If so, then you've already come a long way! In addition, it might be smart to take the lighting in your living room into account. A green velvet sofa can look much lighter in a living room that’s lit by sunlight compared to a room with fewer windows. Tip: not quite sure about the material yet? Then order our materials chart.
Size
Just like the colour, the size of your new sofa is an important characteristic. If you’re going to replace an old sofa, you probably already know what size fits best. In the case of a move, it can be a little more difficult to determine the right size. Therefore, try to make a good estimate of the complete living room. Combine your new velvet sofa with the other chairs, the TV furniture and all other attributes as well as other furniture.
At Table du Sud we have many different sizes in store for you. Think of a compact 2-seater, but also a large corner sofa or U-seat for the whole family. Be inspired and choose the size that best suits your living room.
Inspiration
A velvet sofa naturally has that luxurious look. But this sofa feels at home in many more styles. Are you a fan of velvet, but are you not quite sure how you want to furnish your living room? Then let yourself be inspired by the different living styles that we have listed for you. From industrial to rural and from modern to the surprising Japandi.
