Most frequently asked questions
What is pilling and how do you remove it?
Pilling appears as small fabric bobbles or lint on the surface of upholstered furniture. You may also notice it on certain clothing over time. Pilling is common in textiles and is not related to the quality of the fabric. It occurs as a result of friction during use. The bobbles form when loose fibres move to the surface and gather together.
Pilling is most noticeable in the initial period after purchase. It is not a sign of wear or a defect, but a natural process.
The most effective way to remove it is by using a fabric shaver. This gently removes the bobbles and leaves the surface smooth and even. Always work carefully and avoid applying pressure to the fabric. Removing pilling only takes a few minutes.
What else can help? A lint comb or clothes roller can also be used for lighter pilling. These work particularly well in the early stages.
What are drying cracks?
Wood is a natural material and can respond to its environment. This means that with significant changes in humidity or temperature, the wood may shrink or expand, which can result in drying cracks.
It is important to understand that these small cracks are not a production fault, but a natural characteristic of solid wood. Even with carefully selected materials and a high-quality finish, this can occur. Drying cracks do not affect the structural integrity or lifespan of your furniture.
What are hairline cracks?
Hairline cracks are small, surface-level cracks in the wood that occur due to the natural movement of the material. Unlike drying cracks, hairline cracks are usually more subtle and mainly visual in nature. They are common in wooden furniture and form part of the material’s unique character.
It is important to note that these cracks do not affect the quality of the wood. Brushed surfaces often show more visible hairline cracks than unbrushed table tops.
What is creasing?
In the first weeks after purchase, your seating adjusts to daily use. The foam and suspension become more supple and shape themselves to the body. This creates extra room in the upholstery, which appears as light creasing. Not every sofa will show the same level of creasing. Softer fabrics and more loosely upholstered pieces tend to show creases sooner than firmer, more structured designs. Creasing is therefore not a production fault, but a natural result of using your sofa. Tip: regularly plump the cushions and vary your seating position to distribute pressure evenly. You can find more information on our creasing page.
What are seat indentations and pressure marks?
Seat indentations are dips or lasting impressions in the seat area, caused by the filling settling over time due to regular use. Both of these effects are normal to a certain extent, particularly with softer seat fillings and more supple fabrics or leathers.
Pressure marks are smoother or slightly shinier areas on the upholstery of a sofa. These develop where a seat is used more frequently, causing the material to settle or wear differently in those spots.
You can reduce their appearance by regularly alternating seating positions and, where possible, rotating or plumping the cushions. It also helps to use the sofa evenly, avoiding sitting in the same spot or on the same edge each time, and preventing excessive strain.
In addition, a well-balanced filling, proper support and regular care of the upholstery will help ensure that seat indentations and pressure marks remain less noticeable over time.
What is meant by different foam firmness levels?
Different foam firmness levels in sofas refer to how firm or soft the seating feels, and how much resistance the filling provides when someone sits down.
Softer foam tends to feel more comfortable and inviting. Firmer foam offers more support, often makes getting up easier, and generally retains its shape for longer.
Which floor protectors are suitable for my floor, and are worn pads covered under warranty?
Every floor is different (such as wood, PVC, resin or tiles) and requires specific protection. Our standard felt pads are suitable for many floors, but may not always be the best option.
On our seating accessories page, you’ll find an overview of the floor protectors we offer. Please note that worn felt pads are not covered under warranty.
As we do not offer an extensive range tailored to every floor type, we recommend consulting specialised providers who offer tailored solutions for optimal floor protection.
